For SEO, manage the 2 parts of

    Hi all

I have a business which has 2 roles. We are UK distributor for a brand of products, and we are also a shop selling this brand and other brands.

I'm making a decision about our web presence strategy: from an SEO perspective, is it better to split the 2 entities or keep everything under one roof, as it were...?

    I see the following +s/-s:
    Keep everything together
+more SEO strength as more views etc
-weakness of our shop name recognition, ie. people don't know it, compared to the brand we distribute

    Split shop and distribution
+improved targeting of campaigns and SEO
+more search engine results will be 'ours', with less space for competitors
    -more work
-lower numbers of hits as they may be split between shop and distribution

Which way would you go? I doubt there is a 'right' answer, but I welcome any thoughts/opinions. Can anyone think of any other factors I should take into account?

So you need to not only sell products in an online store, but also set up an information site for distributors/resellers correct?

If so you could do it either way, both have their pros and cons as you have listed. But both work just as well IMO.

For example some brands simple have a single information site which distributors can login to and general public can order from say branddomain.com/shop

On the other hand some like to set up a brand site which has brand and product information and login access for distributors, but set up a new website to sell products.

Again, IMO both work just as well, it just depends on your plans and main target. In terms of seo though, and if your main target is to sell products, I would go for the first option of keeping it all under one roof simple because its much easier to work with and rank a single site.

It's so much easier that way.
