So I am a completely self taught SEO... some of my sites just will not rank.. what should I do or where should I go to just... have someone look at my sites and say "oh you're not doing blah blah" or whatever.. Is that even possible or am I crazy?

I think a lot of our senior members here are self-taught. The thing is, it's really hard to answer general questions like "Why am I just not ranking?" on a forum...questions about specific issues are easier to address.

Some of our senior or more established members may be willing to take a look at a site for free - but many of them also do audits and that sort of thing for pay, and giving too much away for free is just bad business sense, you know? But if anyone is willing to take a look, they'll post here Or maybe there's another place they can recommend. If you want someone here to take a quick look at a site, could you post a URL? Just break off the http and www bits so that it's just "website.com," that way it will make it through our automated spam filter.

    Thanks!

Awesome, thanks! I know one of my issues is backlinks... but okay, so atlantaroof911.com is a frustrating one and my landing page here southernstarcasinoevents.com/casino-equipment-rental-dallas/ too..

    Thanks!

The site doesn't have a lot of noticeable SEO...

Have you done keyword research? And know the full range keywords are being searched on for your niche?

After extensive keyword research, rewriting URLs and Titles will give you the greatest change for the least amount of labor.

But if you are doing your own SEO, I highly recommend reading Google's SEO Starter guide - full of invaluable information.

Are you saying some of your sites ranked? Just some aren't? Maybe some of those are penalized by Google?

I agree with DirectHits, your on-page is lacking in quite a few areas. Easily correctable tho... but there is a noticeable lack of keyword usage.

I've sent the roofing site to get more content.. I think that should help... Give me more to work with at least...

Okay well then this page: southernstarcasinoevents.com/casino-equipment-rental-dallas/

it's my landing page and it ranked for a day and then was dropped... what more could i do to that page? main keyword is 'casino equipment rental dallas' then each of the types of rentals (poker, blackjack, etc.)

There is one big issue with that landing page.
    The page is http://www.southernstarcasinoevents.com/casino-equipment-rental-dallas/
but your canonical tag is set to http://southernstarcasinoevents.com/casino-equipment-rental-dallas/

So any value that page has is being given to the none www version.

Sorry not had time to look deeper into the site but thats one thing I would change straight away.

    oh thank you!

I was under the impression that with Yoast it will default the canonicals to what the site is by default

how do I check on other pages?

This isn't a "make or break" situation necessarily, but i would recommend changing your meta description into a complete sentence (proper grammar).

    currently:
"Southern Star events hosts in casino equipment rental Dallas know they can depend on our qualified team & professional equipment."
That is obviously a description that's been built for search engines (build it for user engagement) and isn't even a complete sentence.

In addition, there are 18 <h2> tags, 4 <h3> tags, 10 <h4>, but 0 <h1>. I would consider adding in <h1> tags where appropriate and see if you can be a bit more semantic here.

Finally, I would consider adding some navigation to this page. User engagement is definitely something Google and other search engines look at when considering who to give top rankings to, with bounce rate being one of the signals taken into account to measure engagement. With no navigation, and little links to other content on your site, I expect the bounce rate to be quite high (as there is little opportunity for the visitor to get more information without leaving that page).

Those would be my initial thoughts, and they are done only by looking at the source code (i didn't read the content or use any software to check for backlinks, competition, or any other on or off page factors).
