Yes, I had some feedback from visitors still using Win95/800x600 systems (they DO exist) who had to use the scrollbars to navigate my site. Since I put it up especially for them, I added an alternate stylesheet (persistent, using a cookie), with a couple of obvious links for them to choose the right one.
Furthermore I noticed that some (background) colours that look really cool and/or stylish on my home laptop (LCD) look like utter cr@p on the CRT screen at work (even in 24-bit mode). I'm working on an alternate stylesheet for that too

Screen sizes doesnt affect SEO or spiders but it makes the website look extra messy depending on the SEO methods you are using. A table with some obvious keywords and/or reciprocal links on a high resoltion will be almost unnoticable. On a 800x600 they are hard to notice. You should be able to look through your logs and find out what resolutions your users are set to and optimize your site to the highest market share.

Isnt it usually the other way around??? I'd take a CRT over a LCD anyday |

Take the BG colour of my sig link page for example (no not that one, the other one - heh). On my LCD screen it looks like a subtle pearly peach colour. But at work it's all harsh and barfy yellow. If that were a money site I'd not make any dough at all I guess the LCD/CRT colour problem works both ways... |

Shouldn't you ALWAYS design your site on an 800 X 600 screen resolution. It has nothing to do with SEO but most people use this resolution on their PC's. You can always align your page to center if the monitor is of a larger resolution.

Well - TBH - I can't get myself to design for 800x600, even though half of my visitors still use it. Still, I presented a workable solution, and I haven't had any complaints since.
Keep in mind though that mobile/PDA surfing is getting more popular. We'll be making sites optimised for 240x320 in a while. They'll look really "lost" when centered in my 1400x1050 screen - LOL. |
