Same Keyword-Different pages
Hello
We have a travel site and one of our main key phrases is city + hotels. We have had a dedicated page for this phrase and all combinations of the keyword for 14 years. The page is not ranking on page 1 on Google.co.uk so my boss decided to create a new page dedicated to city + hotels to try and rank it for that phrase. This new page is less than a week old
My argument against this is that we already have a page focused for all combinations of the key phrase which we should stay focused on. A page that has been stable for 14 years. Google will hardly start ranking the new page when it has been indexing the old page for 14 years. We now have 2 City+ hotels pages and he is actually instructing that we link to the new page going forward. What is worse is that he has placed a link from the home page with the phrase city + hotels pointing at the new page when underneath are links with the same phrase pointing to the old stable page. So basically there are the same key phrase links pointing to different pages. The way i see it we will also be splitting link value, not to mention the fact that Google could see it as an effort on our part at trying to get 2 entries in the SERPS for the same key phrase...please advise
