Question Role of Title

Hi all,

Iam new to this concept of SEO. Could anyone help me with these!!

1. For a better ranking should the title on my website change with every page?
2. Should the title on every page be followed by the company's name.
3. Any tips for an effective title.

Thanx in advance. Will appreciate your help.

Hi,

Very good questions, page titles are very important. Here goes:

1. Yes and No.
Different titles will probably not help your ranking (for the home page). However, if you have different titles for all your pages, you can optimise each one for the content on that page. Furthermore, if all your titles are the same, search engines (ex. Google) may think that their accompanying pages are similar, and will not list all your pages with full info (the piece of text following the title on the search engine's result pages - also called a "snippet"). That in turn might deter visitors: they like to see a catchy title and nice bit of extra info before they click... So DO make your titles all different if you can.
2. Yes and No.
Unless you expect lots of people to look for your company name in particular, there is no need for that. If your company name is not one of the major keywords, leave it out. If it is short and catchy (again), and your building a good brand name for people to remember, you could put it in.
3.
Make it short and simple, and put in your most important keywords. Make sure it's a proper sentence or line of text, and not just a row of keywords (visitors perceive that as spammy, and might not click). Make your titles stand out from your competitors', but try to make them all look related within your own site. As if they all belong to one big title family.

Good luck
