Regarding my web site

Hi all!
I would like to know something about my website links.
When we check on the number of links going to our website we receive
different results depending on whether we check:
www.trowbridgegroup.net or trowbridgegroup.net (without www)

Checking them side by side at
http://www.seorank.com/link-popularity-check.php will illustrate the
differences.

When the same exercise is performed with the website of one of our
competitors, Google has the same number of links for both (with and
without WWW)

I have three questions:

1. What is causing this difference?
2. How does this impact our SEO? I assume negatively because
trowbridgegroup.net has no links recognized by Google.
3. What are the steps we should take to make trowbridgegroup.net have
more links?

All the responses would be highly appreciated
Thanks in advance
Regards
Sushmeen

Google sees domains with and without the www as seperate domains so you should concentrate your linking campaign on one of them only!

I find Yahoo useful to give some info on backlinks by doing a search for link:http://www.domainname.com

Google uses only a selection of the links to your site.

If people have linked not using the www part then it will have little or no bennefit to the www. domain.
There is not much you cna do other than ask the webmasters to change it - which can be tedious!
Other than that I don't think it realy has a negative effect.
