redirect from website to another, does it affect ranking

    Hi.

If you redirect URLs to my domain from your blog, say 15 to 20 where my website has better overall ranking than yours,
does your "not so hot ranking" effect my website?

Your website is not spam or trashy or anything bad, you are just a page 2 or 3er

For example: you have a Sporting blog and you wrote 15 "by the way" articles about hiking,
I am a local tour guide and i specialize in hiking,
We want to move all the hiking articles to my website where I will continue blogging about the subject.

I rank well in my industry, you dont really rank that well but you arent bothered. You blog for fun.

My question again: Does the 301 redirects of a lesser known blog affect the ranking of the better blog?

    Thank you all.

Yes it can ! But to what degree depends on a lot of things. How much PR the site has page per page. Are the articles with links spammy, What link anchors are used. Are the links site wide, etc, etc.
People 301 sites to their money sites all the time to funnel traffic.

20 questions or so more to ask....

A 301 redirect, or also known as a permanent redirect, ought to be set up to forever divert a page. The word ‘permanent’ is there to imply that ALL qualities of the redirected page will be passed on to the detour page. That includes: PageRank,MozRank,Page Authority,Traffic Value.
A 301 redirect is actualized if the change you want to make is, well… permanent. The reroute page now exemplifies the diverted page as though it was the previous. A complete takeover. The old page will be expelled from Google's record and the new one will replace it.

Moz does not run a search engine. I agree with you on PR, but Moz Rank, and Page Authority are not, I repeat "Are Not Google Metrics" so they don't count. They will have no effect upon your ranking whether you 301 or 302 the page, ( 302's now pass full PR btw )

A 301 redirect is also known a permanent redirect. You can easily redirect traffic to your new site using 301 redirect without any effect on rankings.
