    Ranking Drop after Update Content

    Hallo.

I updated one of my best blog post with more content, new and high quality images and a lot of more useful information and links to others posts that could help the visitor.

It has been 2 days and since them my ranking for that page that was often in #2 is now at #4.

Is this right because it is a recent change?

Probably, just hold tight and see what happens. Two days isn't long enough to judge.

Make sure the images fit to scale, compressed, have good alt tags etc.

Blogs are very sensitive to changes like this, especially if there is no dedicated home page. I never make more changes than I can easily reverse. And I OFTEN reverse changes I make when I see a downward turn in SERPs.

I have faced the same issue on same day. There was some change in google algorithm which caused movement in the ranking. When i worked on it that why this happened then i came to know that this is a time based change and my ranking will be restored in some days. This thing usually happens when you change content on the website on big level.

You cannot see instant results in SEO, you are aware right? You need to give time for your content to rank and the #2 to #4 position is not that drastic shift. Relax!

Hey, you are in the world of SEO, nothing goes instantly, everything need time and tricks. And by updating & adding quality images, doesn't meant that you will rank. Google has "N" number of factors, and no one know that perfectly. So, just wait and watch

It could be what is termed the Google dance. Essentially it means Google has picked up on the changes and need to work out how to score you.

Two days does seems too soon for Google to decide where to place you in the rankings, so I would give it a little more time, particularly as you seem to be doing the right thing by adding more content, images etc.

If you can, I would build an other backlink or two after the content update to try and boost it to the number 1 position.

Essentially, wait a week or two to see how you end up ranking

Have you noticed this being harmful to rankings?

Should I just boldly test different content if I think it might be better for users and then revert back if it doesn't work?

Any kind of updates are prone to fluctuations in rankings so don't worry, give some time to your blog. Also, ranking drop tp #4 from #2 is not too serious to worry for, so give some time to your blog bud!

Yes, I wouldn't make a claim like that without having personal experience with it. Best to make a static page or monitor SE ranking after each post.
