Quick 301 redirect question

Hi all,

I have a quick question on 301 redirects. It hopefully will have a straightforward yes or no answer.

If I 301 redirect example.com/sub-folder/ to "new URL", does this mean that all following urls (i.e. example.com/sub-folder/widgets.html & example.com/sub-folder/trinkets.html) will automatically be 301 redirected to "New URL" as well?

Thanks

You need to redirect everything in /sub-folder/ usring .htaccess, not just the sub-folder.

Thanks for your reply Johnny, but I'm not sure your answer solves my problem.

What I am wondering is can I 301 redirect example.com/sub-folder/ but still have have the spiders able to access this url example.com/sub-folder/trinkets.html or will 301 redirecting example.com/sub-folder/ result in all following URL's being automatically redirected (like what happens when you disallow a folder in robots.txt)?

Not clear what you exactly want to say.

Thanks for that New_Seo. That's what I was expecting to hear.

So I presume that if I performed the following 2 redirects:

example.com/sub-folder/widgets.html -> "new URL 1"
example.com/sub-folder/trinkets.html -> "new URL 2"

and then performed a 3rd redirect:

example.com/sub-folder/ -> "new URL 3",

The 3rd redirect would override the first two and

example.com/sub-folder/widgets.html and example.com/sub-folder/trinkets.html would now both redirect to "new URL 3".
