Question On site Maps
I have just read an atricle that suggested it was better to have the site map on every page on the site, I am wanting to know some other opinions before doing this. I thought this was overkill but I am open to suggestions. God Bless Joe

An entire site map on every page sounds like terrible overkill and if the site is of a reasonable size, a great way to clutter the page. Sounds awful to me. It won't look good to visitors, and I consider that before making any SEO effort. I want people to come back to me!
A link to the site map on every page, while not strictly necessary for the search engines to find the site map, won't hurt anything. I typically link to my site map in small (9-10 pt) text at the bottom of the page. Users can find it if they want it, and search engines will take notice.

I think it may come down to personal preference. I don't think you'll be penalized for it.

If you put a sitemap on every page, make sure you don't exceed the max. links number. Google suggests 100 max... 50 would be safe.
I don't see how you're going to put so many links on every page without making it look silly, but maybe with a nifty tree structure. But remember: if you want to do this to guide the googlebot, use regular A HREF=... tags and keep it under 100 (50) a page. |
