    Question about Title Tag

    Hello,

I have a client, let's say the keyword is "Used Cars Dallas"

The homepage title is: Used Cars Dallas | Name Of Business

But when I search for Used Cars Dallas on Google, the title tag is shown as:

Domain: Used Cars Dallas | Name Of Business

Why does google add "domain" in front of my title page? It is showing like that on google search page, but I don't put "domain" on my meta title tag.

    Please advise. Thanks

I've just seen something similar (first for me)!

No idea what's going on, except the site I saw it happen on, the webmaster didn't robots.txt-block the site whilst he was building and G crawled it before he added the title.

They indexed it with the domain name in place if the title, and then he added a title (like the o/p) and they did exactly the same - changed the listing title to "domain - title"!

May be a coincidence but I'm curious to know if this is quite a new site and if it's possible the same thing happened (Googlebot crawled it before the title was added)?

I noticed yesterday that the title displayed in Google's results varies depending on the search term used... (just like the description)!

So (re the website I mentioned above): When I search for it with KW's they list the title element.

When I search for it with a combination: Domain-name(-tld) keyword1 - Result lists the title element sometimes... But for some kw's it lists just the domain(-tld) instead!

When I search for Domain-name(-tld) they list just "Domain-name(-tld)" as the title!

Has this been happening for years and I only just noticed (highly possible as searching by name is not something I do very often) or is this something new?

I listed it here because it relates to the website I mentioned above, and also because the o/p might have searched for "domain Used Cars Dallas" rather than just "Used Cars Dallas". (???)

You're not the only one... When I search 'used cars dallas' the same thing happens with autotrader(.com) and cars(.com).
Domain appears even when it's not included on the HTML title.

I've even seen Google include the anchor text of a link to a page in the title of that page. Basically it's like the description now - Google puts what it thinks is most relevant in the title!

I'm not seeing that here. You think it might be a beta test rolled out on a few servers?

I mentioned it last year: Google messing with page titles again in the SERPs?

But I haven't seen it become widespread...

I don't thing askingseo is having on-site issues in Meta Titles. Even some of my websites title appearing in Google like Domain Name | Title.

I agree with Doodled Comments, Some algorithm is running up for Meta Tags.

Content management like drupal is adding domain name in title tag. You need to change the setting in cms.
