    Punctuation for SEO

Should my h1 heading read Shoreview, Southern Maplewood, Roseville & Crystal Violin Lessons or Shoreview | Southern Maplewood | Roseville | Crystal Violin Lessons? I know the words at the beginning of the site title are given more weight but how does one punctuate for site title and title tag?

Thank you for answering this question.

No. Your page title should be about that page, read for a human.

The weight you are talking about is the pages' title element....the text shown on the browser's tab.

Totally agree! Write for humans and naturally include your keywords. I like this one: "Professional Violin Lessons in Shoreview" assuming Shoreview is the largest city. I wouldn't bother listing multiple cities like that. It seems spammy. People in smaller suburbs know how for of a drive it will be for them to get to violin lessons. You're not serving the user by adding in those cities. You're just trying to game the search algorithm.

If you want to rank for all those cities, grow your client base and open new locations.

I do have students in multiple locations so in that sense what should my site title be? I have locations in Roseville, Crystal, Shoreview and Maplewood.

Thinks of it this way. You have many locations serving students in many more locations. Create a "Locations page". This Page's purpose is to explain the many locations that you have and what communities are local and convenient to each one.

Violingirl, I bet you remember how to create an outline from school. Sorta use that as a template to layout this page, I hope you get my gist.

Create a locations page. Targeting terms like "violin lessons near me", then provide a section for each location you teach from. Your h1 should target the page as a whole, then each locations part would target that location with an h2, with a couple of paragraphs of content and maybe a picture.

    Professional Violin Lessons

    4 convenient locations for teaching

    location 1
Hours Address serving the following areas
    location 2
Hours Address serving the following areas
    location 3
Hours Address serving the following areas
    location 4
