Proof of rankings to advertisers
I'm not sure this is in the right forum, please move if it isn't.
If you have a site that is highly ranked for you given search terms, and you want to promote that fact to potential and current advertisers, what serves as a standard for proof? I relaize the rankings are always in flux, and that today's ranking is no guarantee of future performance. Clearly, I can tell them to 'run a search', but I'm wondering if there is some sort of ranking validation service that will give you something you can present to advertisers as being an unbiased source. If not, it might be a good biz idea for someone.... |

You could use results from rustybricks tool at seocount.com or digitalpoint.com keyword tool.

You can give them the complete search link like http://www.google.com/search?xyz.... something like that and they can click it and see the results.
you can also use alexa rank. do not just state your rank, but compare it with your competitors, may be if you are topping all your competitors. And yes as robert says, you can use the keyword tool. Good Luck. |

Alexa Ranking Not Accurate
Hi there
Alexa is not an accurate traffic ranking tool. Alexa's toolbar would seem to be most used by those who are interested in traffic stats which would be webmasters, developers, and the like. But for most of the shoppers and such that are real traffic advertisers want to measure ,, the tool probably isn't downloaded...more than likely your seeing 5% or less of the real traffic rankings of most sites. If you are using a flat rate time based advertising model and not a PPC or CPM model, a potential advertiser will be far more interested in real traffic analysis than some ranking report(s). I would suggest taking snapshots of your web analytics (CTRL-Print Screen & Paste into MS Paint) showing the number of unique user sessions per day over a period of time (week or month), that will be useful for determining the real value of having an ad on your page/site for a given period of time.

The media kit I'm using to court advertisers is multi-pronged, and includes information about actual traffic, comparisons to other forms of media, and some other info. I was thinking this would be a nice addition to the information, helping to assure them that they will get getting their money's worth in ad dollars.
I've done a few screen shots of different terms and will likely include it in our media kit - I was just thinking there would be some sort of official standard for ranking - like the Beckett grading service for baseball cards. That kind of thing. Sounds like there may not be - that works fine, too. I'll use the tools suggested and knock advertiser's socks off! Thanks for your input. |

Robert...
You seem to be on top of this and more forward thinking on advertising sales than most ever hope to be. Maybe you are interested in starting a service that helps publishers sell ad spots to advertisers. There is already a big marketplace for bringing advertisers and sellers to together but most of them are technology based or simply trying to sell textlinks. I think that there are opportunities in this area. |

I appreciate the very kind words.
I'm definitely flattered that you'd think there's an opportunity there. With the small sales force I'm assembling, that might be a possibility, too - Contract website ad sales in a box. However, I have enough irons in the fire now that I can barely keep up. But I'll keep that idea in the back of my mind once I have the current tigers tamed. Thanks again for the kind words. |
