Firstly Forums are not article sites so please don't start submitting for the sake of it.

Second, Wikipedia nofollow all of their links so there will be no value other than the traffic that you might or might not get.

Forum links IMO will not help you rank.

Wikipedia is a waste of time. like ^^^ said, it has the no follow tag. Look for article submission sites on google, you will find a ton. I don't neccesarily think forum links are worthless, but definently not as valuable as other links.

But if you do think it will get you traffic, then the people who do find your content and find it interesting might decide to link to you, which would have some benefit.

But Wikipedia doesn't generally allow commercial articles. If they see an article solely as a means for a company to market themselves, the article will very quickly be deleted.

both of the companies I represent have a wikipedia entry with appropriate factual non marketing information that I put together with links out to related articles from the media showing various points in the company history (good and bad as we went bankrupt once and were saved by a private equity firm with a lot of media attention) as well as to our website. They have proper company boxes with proper factual information and our logo as well as company history, awards and accreditations, locations, operations etc.

I linked it into other appropriate pages on wikipedia where a lot of our competitors are too so for example here

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:ERP_software_companies
    and here
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Business_intelligence

etc and likewise link out of the article to related pages and we get a small but steady stream of direct traffic from wikipedia but I maintain it was worth doing not for the search engine rankings but to expand the reach of the brand.

The deals we work with are 6 figure sums so people research a company, so something like a wikipedia entry whereby the information is honest but generally positive is vital

I however do not condone spamming wikipedia but if it honestly adds value to wikipedia then I say go for it

Were the articles removed, or did you just never get them posted?

No, the articles are still there months after posting them, they've been looked at by wikipedia editors and a few tiny tweaks made, but nothing substantial...one was a typo for example, but they are proper company entries in the same way that the microsoft entry here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft

    is a proper company entry

Although it is no value to Google, it can help increase your SERPs for Yahoo and other search engines who don't follow the nofollow algorithm that Google follows.

There are a ton of article submission sites online. However, there was a debate on here the other day about the value of directory articles and many believe it is better to simply place the contend on your own site.
