percentage of key words in body
My term is Venetian Plaster. the #1 site is running about .0375 percent of the key word in the text of body. Web Position Pro (which I quit using after many posts on this forum)had me at .0060 percent of my key words. I am at #10. My question could it do any harm to raise my precentage to .030 ???
thanks for all the help Doyle www.italianplasters.com |

A raw data analysis at keyworddensity.com weighs you in for a total of 7.14% (to be frank, I have no idea how you got figures like 0.375) This is fine, a little over normal but way within any kind of penalty limits. I would suggest your problem isn't keyword density. It may howver be the lack of links with your keywords as anchor text. Check out the number one position and how low the PR is on this page (http://www.behrpaint....) The site has 17 links with the keywords in it but a total density of almost half what you have. I think you need at least 3 link occurences with your keywords as link text within and a couple more incoming links should see you to a PR 5.
"Venetian Plaster Talk click here" ... Is a definite no-no. Simply make "Venetian Plaster Talk" a link. More on page text links and some incoming links using "Venetian plaster" as link text is what the doctor orders me thinks .-) |

Hey everyone, I'm brand new to all of this.
Why shouldn't I be using WebPosition as stated earlier? |

Webposition is frowned apon by google, they've had BIG bust ups especially with the "check your position" feature. Mostly I've found that it just plain don't work! It can tell you the basic's which your site is missing but nothing with any real substance. Your best off looking a learning getting you own feet, by the time you come to making your next site you'll be building in SEO without even realising.

Following SEO forums such as this one will benefit you a hell of a lot more than any software is likely to. For a keyword density check webposition is ok but thats about it imo.

What about tracking your PR? That's what I was mostly interested in, but even that seemed a bit cloogy and unmanageable (in WebPosition, that is). How do y'all keep track of things? Homespun spiders? 3rd party tools? Monkeys with Excel and Internet access?

Download and configure the Google toolbar for starters, then there is a very good link (time to use Google, no fair giving all the answers) with code that can tell you what the internal to your site link structure will do in distributing the PR, however, as Webby keeps trying to pound into folks skulls, a well designed page will place well in the SERPs regardless of the pages PR. Cheers,

Er... Sorry. Still working on this terminology.
What I meant by PR was where you rank in the results for a term. Obviously, this isn't the correct usage of the term. Not sure what is, though... SERP, maybe? Y'all have more acronyms than the government. Anyway, thanks for the advice... I will download the google toolbar as suggested. Hope I'm not being too much of a pain, but right now I have a lot of questions and nothing to really contribute. -Nate |

You aren't being a pain, the only pain caused here is caused by the big Google ... we want the dance, bot visits, and a real good Search Engine Results page Placement ... page 1 above the fold (old newspaper term) .... and the resulting traffic. Cheers, |
