Page title keywords
Hi guys just looking for some advice here on keywords for the page title of my homepage. Currently the keywords in the title are "Ink cartridges, Toner cartridges, Refill Inkjet Cartridges & Refill Kits :: CartridgeSpecialists.com.au" and I want to change it to include the keywords "hp toner cartridges, ink cartridges, printer cartridges, toner cartridges & inkjet cartridges "
What Im wondering is am I using the word "cartridge" too often as in is it unessacary to repeat it this many times and if so could I reword the new keywords to something like "hp toner cartridges & printer inkjet cartridges" to inc the words I want and get a better result as I remember reading somewhere that Google will only pay attention to the first x amount of characters in the title. Any advice or suggestions before I go ahead ? Thanks in advance everyone Andrew |

I personally feel that you don't have the proper idea about title tag. Both of your titles are spammy. Title of a page should tell the visitors and the search engine bots about the theme of the page in very natural way. I don't think that your titles are doing that.

it looks really spammy and it really is spammy...try to think of something that will lighten up the load...after all, there are other things where you can focus more on promoting your keyword...

How about
"New and Refill printer ink and toner cartridges" Then make a separate page for all your brands. Dont try and focus everything onto one page. Your home page should focus on your main keywords with your internal pages focusing on things like brands and models. |

I agree.
Three or 4 keywords per page works bvest.

Try not to jam too many keyword phrases into the homepage as this is spammy. Add more pages as needed to accommodate your other keyword phrases.

Thx for the feedback guys, I had a feeling it was spammy but needed some suggestions so I appreciate the advice, I shall certainley reword my new title accordingly.
Just one other thing Im still not clear on, if I have for example the keywords "Printer Ink Cartridges" in the title does that mean the search engines will pick up "Ink Cartridges" and "Printer Cartridges" as keywords just as strongly as if I had them as "Printer Cartridges, Ink Cartridges" ? Sorry if Im asking dumb questions but I just want to make sure I understand as I dont want my site to be spammy. Andrew |

The short answer is no. Exact matches in the on-page title and off-page link anchor text will yield stronger results, IMHO.

I do think that it will somehow find it but it all depends on your performance as SEO.

Looks spam.. try to put 1-2 keywords that's best describes for a particular page of your site.

I agree that googler has a good idea why not try it and see how it works..

More pages with less keyowrds per page
The answerer here is to build more pages with fewer keywords. I had about 30 good keywords and build 10 pages with 3 keywords for leash page. You can take you 3 keywords and find something to write about with them or something to sell or both and that will get things off to a good start.

> "Ink cartridges, Toner cartridges, Refill Inkjet Cartridges & Refill Kits :: CartridgeSpecialists.com.au"
This is real quick, I'm not doing any keyword research here... I might do something like this: Ink cartridges, Toner cartridges, Refill Inkjet Cartridges & Refill Kits :: Hp, Dell, Lexmark, Epson Canon, all major brands." You keep it under 3 repetitions of your word, and you cover the field. It still reads pretty good from the perspective of the surfer seeing that title in the SERP. It is on the high end of spammy, but I think it's ok. imo, your domain name is usually worthless in the title, unless it's a prestige or direct navigation domain. I'd want to see a left side nav links to a page for every manufacturer, printer, etc., each with a more targeted title. |

Follow Googler's example. Start general and go for more specific as you go deeper with brands/models.
I might be tempted to put the New and Refill at the end though, but it doesn't read as well. Its a tricky title you have there. Maybe: Ink, Toner and Refill Cartridges for the main page Then as Celebrity DNA said, link to each brand/model and retitle for Lexmark Toner Cartridge, for example. Focus on new brand/model on separate pages from refill for all models. Last edited by JHF SEO : May 22nd, 2008 at 06:16 PM. |
