orbitz.com spamming SEs

Check this out. Search for airline tickets in M, G and Y. Titles for orbitz.com shown in each SE are all different. Plus no cache. Cloaking in action. They used their real title in G only. So they obvioulsy don't want to be penalized by G. LOL. Can't believe they would resort to this.

Ok, I just reported them to Y and M and also sent a letter directly to orbitz as well. We'll see how they react.

DO you get a gratuity for reporting someone or do you work for the search engines?

I keep seeing people saying they reported sites and i never got round to asking how much they got for it of if it was they were contracted to do it.

I'd say what kind of question is that but don't want to offend you too much.

I've come to believe that reporting is a SEO trick like any other. It's up to SEOers to decide which tricks to use, based on whatever reason they can think of (ranging from "ethics" to "risk/fear").

While some here frown upon that for whatever reason, and some are neutral (like me), you'd get fried over there for being a "whiner".

You're right that a person's attitude to this may be coloured by past "issues", but it can be influenced by peers as well. Same goes for all SEO "tactics" I suppose

My (current) take on this is that if it works, and doesn't get you into trouble, then it's a smart move

I don't know if Mick's ever been reported...Hell, I don't know if you've ever been reported but I'll bet you have. With all the little "<whiney>mommy tommy hit me</whiney>" reporters out there that lack the skill to rank, I'm certain you have, that is, if you have anything worth reporting.

Keep in mind that Karma has a way of coming back rushing right up your arse for that slimy feel great moment directly proportionate to the damage dealt.

The thing that gets me the most is just a day or two ago you were lecturing some fairly wise sap about him spending $74 for 100 directory submissions as being a waste of money. Apparently you are one of those folks who have a great deal of time on their hands, and a lack of money.

Keep spam reporting instead of working on your sites and you always will be.

Besides, there's nothing wrong with cloaking....Google does it, Yahoo does it, MSN does it. So report away, that and a buck or two might keep you alive...for today.

Faremax; G, Y, M are good examples. When a "governing body" tells you: nay stay thy hand from these behaviours and then turn around and do it themselves, it's referred to as hypocrisy. Cloaking is only "bad" because the SE's say it is, if they say it is and they do it, how can it truly be bad? If you believe otherwise, then that's your problem.

I'm not worried about your skills and finances, or lack thereof. You've already made your priorities perfectly clear: I'll do everything myself to save money and in my frustration I'll report people. Good for you!

You have no idea who I am or how successful I am, so again, if you are going to waste your time, don't do it attempting to insult me. What you or anyone thinks of me is really none of MY business and has no bearing on my life one way or another.

If you don't use black hat why are you getting so upset? If you saw somone spamming in front of you wouldn't you report that site? Yes YOU WILL. So who is being hypocritical here?

No these are terrible examples because I personally know 2 sites that were banned because of cloaking

Update: I can't really beleive it but M took them down. The site is still indexed but they don't come up for the search I mentioned above! 2 days! We are all presented equal opportunity. You can't follow the rules you get punished. Great response from M. Bravo!

First, who said I was upset, you are the one whose butt is puckered over this. As far as spam reporting goes: Never have reported ANYONE and most likely never will. One caveat: If someone is doing something illegal such as stealing my content or your content I WILL report them in a heartbeat. If someone is simply repeating keywords or cloaking and I want that keyword I'll simply take it from them. I will NOT report them.



Are you sure that this was why they were banned? How do you know? Did you speak to an SE rep and did they explicitly tell you that? How do you know it isn't because they were cloaking AND not relevant. That's what SE's hate the most you know. Unrelevant sites masquerading in their SERPS.



Yes I may have been a little insulting, and with good reason. You and others need to understand that your actions are simply juvenile and a waste of time. You've had some good posts and I think you've both contributed and learned here.

In fact this would have been a good thread if it hadn't been accompanied by the "I found something evil as defined by the SE's and reported it to those same hypocritical SE's". Chances are that Orbitz will not quit doing what they are doing and G, Y, and MSN will do nothing about it. In fact, there may even be a "legitimate" reason why they are doing it.

Posts like yours need to be responded to so that newbies don't think that what you are doing is a viable use of time and resources. I don't like witch hunts and never will. In fact, so long as I'm a member here I will respond to every post like this I see because I believe it is our duty NOT to mislead newbies into thinking that things will help when they won't.

I may not share everything, but I don't intentionally sow misinformation either. Furthermore, I always try to be consistent and therefore reduce my own hypocricy. I've responded to many similar posts as yours. In fact I've responded to GCHaney in a similar way.

And let me tell you this; I have absolutely nothing but the greatest respect for that man. He constantly, and unselfishly gives of himself and doesn't give a rip what other people say or think. He also doesn' t mince words....when he's wrong, he'll admit it. He probably drinks too much and says too much from time to time, but hey, that's his deal. Plus, it's fun to watch his posts slowly deteriorate over the course of the day.

The only spam report I agree with are those that are regarding violations of rights and property, and of course, when G was caught cloaking. That definitely HAD to be reported.
