Optmization Techniques: Google vs. AllTheWeb

Take a look to AllTheWeb.com (which by the way I am pushing a bit harder than Google these days). Seochat.com is Number 1 for many terms & ranks extremely well for others.

If Google pulled this site then the are biting one of the many hands that feed them. If we create a negative vibe towards Google in this forum then it would be felt across the board.

whats the difference in optimization techniques between google and alltheweb? i come out slightly lower in alltheweb for a few keywords. So what are the major differences in optimization strategies?

I personally don't think there are too many differences between the two. Both rely heavily on inbound link text. AllTheWeb seems to be delivering higher quality results right now.

I think AllTheWeb still likes a little higher density than Google, which means that you need to find a balance between the 2. Google seems to like low keyword density right now, which is very strange.

i like all the web better for flash sites getting listed. No problem getting listed on the first page for keyword flash designs on all the web,They use some kind of technology that goes inside the swf file and reads everything,They say google does to but is not as focused on it.I love google but i don't spend all my time trying to be on the first page on alot of keywords there,If they want to put me first thats good but if they don't there are alot of other se out that wouldn't mind putting me first. They are alot of people that use google for searching and they are alot people that don't

It looks like alltheweb relys alot on the title tag.

Rusty,

Many of my clients have expressed how they feel that AllTheWeb is producing more accurate numbers for backlink queries. I agree on the basis that Google only shows backlinks with a PR4 or greater.

my bad, i didnt take into account that google only counts a backlink if it is of PR 4 or above.

any idea as to why alltheweb did not implement something like this?

why can't i make a link farm for alltheweb or other search engines?

I like all the web but I'm number 1-5 on a few phrases and am not seeing that much traffic from them.

As much as I would being 20 on google.

Anyone else?

You could always check word tracker and see how the number of searches differ from engine to engine for those phrases.

Rusty,
Backlinks are certianly important. Probably the most important on Google and AllTheWeb. Second would be your site Title. Again this holds true for both SEs. Then Link text and body content. Ofcourse it is much more complicated than this, but this is the basics. I have spent months on end studying the process of PR on Google and I know alot more now about search algorithms than I ever wanted to know. But I did accomplish major results on Google. Which in turn brought me traffic from AOL, Yahoo, Netscape, and Go2.com. The website I am speaking of is http://www.hotelkingdom.com and http://www.discounthotelsamerica.com.

When they hired me to do their SEO back in Oct of 2001 they had a PR of 1/10. Since then we have increased to a PR of 6/10 and rank in the top 30 for "Hotel Discounts" one of the most competitive phrases on Google. We are 100% Internet based and produce over 9000 sales per month with an average of 750,000 unique visitors. Building links was the longest and most difficult task to under take. Link Farms just don't work! We now have 600 backward links on Google and it gets higher every month. Internal Links and External links combined will help your PR. Plus getting a link from Lonley Planet (PR of 8/10) helped me out alot. Also getting discounthotelsamerica.com listed in DMOZ and then linking it back to HotelKingdom.com helped as well.

My point is that we also have several thousand pages indexed in ATW and rank very high in ATW for several phrases. But 90% of my purchasing traffic comes from Google, AOL, Yahoo, MSN - In that order. Google, AOL, Yahoo make up 70% of my total traffic and as you know all 3 of these SEs are powered by Google. So I think they are much more powerful then ATW.

Now Overture recently purchased the SE division of FAST or ATW so look out for some changes on the SE landscape...

The best is a bad question. Google has a larger Market Reach and will bring you more traffic, However they are both good places to have your pages indexed. I suggest using them both. Apply the same techniques that are discussed on this forum and try to farm as much traffic as you can. There are no bad SEs when it comes to the big players. It is just a matter of prioritizing the time you spend on each one. Spend most of your time on Google, Then FAST, then Inktomi. Don't ignore any SE just because they have low search volume, they still have something to mine.

This is of course not inlcuding Pay Per Click with LookSmart and Overture, etc...

Question Optmization versus Optimization

As of the last update March 16th 2004

this thread is #1 on Google for 'Google OPTMIZATION

(Optmization is in the TITLE tag)

Our site has risen to #4 after including the term in some of the meta tags

Our site has been #1 for Google Optimization
for a very long time.

This does indicate the need to find ways to "OPTIMIZE"
for common "misspellings" without appearing unprofessional...

It appears that even the most
learned surfers will make mistakes in their spelling
of some the most important SEO terms

like:

Optmization

Developement

Graphics Design

E-commerce versus Ecommerce

Web site versus Website

etc
