If you put phrases on your page like:
Add your site
Submit URL
Link to Us
Widget Links
...people searching for link partners in your subject area will be likely to find your site.

plus, if you ask for some link exchanges at first, other's will "backtrack" to you eventually from other sites that link to you

I have done the same thing on my main site and also in my fourm. But I was now thinking, do I take "Image" links or is it better to take a name and add a description? At present I have the site's Logo as the link.

Both work well. however the text link will have better opportunties.
