    Optimize Infographics for SEO

    Hi,

I could be wrong but I remember reading somewhere google likes infographics for better SEO.
But how will google know I have an infographic on my site, is there any particular mark up I need to use or anything?
How do I optimize the infographic to get the full potential?

    Love to hear any feedback.

    Thanks,

    Claire.

    Infographics work, no debate there..

    Why ?

Because it dresses the data up so it looks attractive, has some hollywood in it so to speak. If you do it with quality content, and it provides value to a niche, then perchance bloggers and such may pick it up and provide you a In Bound Link.

Just be sure that your content provides value and looks professional. Presentation and quality content will make or break an infographic.

    Hi DirectHits

Yes I would. One of the biggest benefits of infographics is that they get shared via social media. So make sure you optimize the url, meta description, alt text etc. etc.

Use your keyword liberally here, this will help Google and other SEs understand what the graphic is about.

    Know,

I was talking about image optimization, right clicking and configuring the properties tab.

Yes, definitely... we are talking the same thing

You have to optimize the pages the infographics live on. So here you would optimize as many elements on page to convey what the graphic is about.

Remember Google doesn't read images very well, Title tag, alt text properties will play heavily in my opinion as to how well it could rank.

You generally optimize for a "Single Keyword". Sorta, kinda treat it as a door way page, but it's not, I hope you get my meaning here.

    edited to add...
I trust you to understand I am not recommending creating a doorway page. It just the closest analogy I can think of at the moment .. LOL..

    Lets rewind a little.

An infographic typically is an image (not in all cases) but most people generate a jpg or png with some data displayed in a nice graphical form. You tag it up in exactly the same way as any other graphic/image on your site. Content around it will also help google understand the image along with alt text title etc.

The term infographic though indicates its something different but its not. However that image is often link bait, if the information it contains is good then it will be shared on blogs / social networks etc. So it can generate a lot of inbound links whereas a picture of your dog won't.

A word of warning though, just creating any old graphic and calling it a infographic just dont cut it, it needs to be something people want and will use in order for it to be successful.

The first step in optimizing an infographic is to ensure the content supports a single keyword (or keyword phrase)...
