I've been getting inquiries from clients regarding the creation of microsites and how optimization of them could dilute positioning of the main corporate site. My view was that the corporate site would always maintain consistent preferred positioning overall while the micro sites will only obtain optimal positioning around the specific promotions they support.
I'm open to any insider thoughts...Since the response is timely, feel free to reply and email me directly at athompson@apcoworldwide.com. Al |

I've messed with micro sites and have some big sites. IMO a big site will kick major butts, defeating strong competitors where a micro site would fail or be filtered. Putting lots of effort into a high quality large site will help you develop a brand instead of having a bunch of lesser know storefronts. Lots of sites, lots of hosting, lots of links to chase, lots of pain in the butt. Worry about cross linkage penalties.
But... maybe you can help me understand the value of small sites? What advantage do you think they will gain?
