Onsite and Offsite SEO - which is more important?
OK so the SEO landscape is changing - any thoughts on whether onsite or offsite SEO is now more important. Is the trend shifting? If so in what direction?
In percentage terms, how much time/resources should you put in to each? Can you do one without the other?
Interested in seeing what everyone's views are on this...

Both are equally important as well as just not as a seo prospective but also as a user prospective so don't do any stuffing activities in on page optimization as well as need to work strongly on off page optimization.

i think both are very important coz search engine reads the tag and html which we can fix in onpage and and we can make good backlink which we can get with the off page techniques. so in my point of view both are very important.

It's not a question of which is more important.
Without one, the other won't perform to its potential. Both should work in harmony. What if you just did link building and didn't bother doing any on-site optimisation. You may well achieve high rankings after a while, but who would click on your listing if your site has no relevance to their query? Similarly, if a visitor does click your listing, the chances of an eventual conversion are low.

Where on earth did you get that figure from? I'd like to see your source for that before you make statements that could lead new practitioners astray before they even start!

Obviously both are important...
You can't put a precentage on either but in general, your onpage optimization is done when the site is built, or content is added.
Off-site stuff can/should be done continuously.
