    No metadata->3rd position. After adding metadata, no ranking!

    Probably it's one of these cases, that shows that metadata sometimes have no use.
    I had a specific page at the website that I am handling, that had a specific kw that was ranking at nr.3 for a specific country. There was no metadata and Google was using some part of the product description for metadata description.
    So, I decided to add a proper meta title and description.

    3 days later and I have lost the ranking totally! Out of 100 results... The only difference is the addition of the metadata. I haven't changed anything at the rest of the page.
    I will wait a few more days and if this will continue, then I will remove the metadata to see if the ranking will come back.

    What meta data did you change?
    Maybe Google knows what to use better that you do.

    There was no metadata before, as I have already written.
    I have added proper meta for title and description, as I have for dozen other pages.
    And I am just mentioning this as an example that the addition of meta data for a page had a negative effect.

    Most people are sometimes confused using the terms "Page Title" and "Meta Title".

    The page title would be enclosed with the tags <title>Some Page Title</title>.

    Did you change the Title of the Page. Yes or No ??

    The Page title is the same as Meta Title for all my pages.
    There is no different field at my CMS.

    So, yes.

    Undo your change concerning your title, put the title back to what it was.

    Out curiosity what was the old title and your new title ?

    BTW, Just for the record...

    Knowing the difference and when to use each is a bit important.

    Title
    <title>This is a Web Page Title not a meta title</title>

    Meta Title
    <meta name=”title” content="This is a Meta Title.”>

    Open Graph Title for social media
    <meta property="og:title" content="Title for Social Media use.">

    No, our CMS is a custom one.
    Nothing to do with wp. It doesn't have plugins, only built in functions.

    Hahaha it's crazy.
    So I have removed all info from Meta Title and description and left empty both fields for the same page.
    I forced indexing through the GSC and ouala: Back to 3rd position for the same kws!!!

    So the theory is proved.

    That because meta data still matters. Anyone who says otherwise is an idiot.

    Simply removing all the meta info and you got your rankings back up? Wow that is amazing!

    If you're saying you believe that optimized meta descriptions and keyword tags are a must for ranking well you might have to redefine your definition of idiot.

    Just to be sure we're in the same pew, the title element is not a meta tag.
