It is easy to implement a fairly good SEO program yourself. Do some reading and studying on this site. You can start by clicking on the newbie link in my signature. Once you feel you at least know the basics and jargon, start SEOing your site. If questions arise, do a search here... If you can't find the answer or get lost... ask your questions here. You will find that most are very helpful FOR FREE.

Skywalker786 my two cents

I like the fact that this is a niche market you are looking at that will definitely be an easier market to target. One thing you need to understand is that starting any forum can be a true challenge and extremely difficult to succeed in. It is important that you will have to know that as the market you are targeting is very small.

The first issue that comes to mind is the keywords research you will have to do to be able to obtain and convert your target market... For example...

"Men over 50 jobs"
"Careers woman over 50"

These two seems possible, but Men over 50 holidays? MMMmmmmmmm

I suggest you do allot more work in the line of the keywords you really want to target and then review the main themes based on that. I assume you wish to target the age group as that is the target market you feel you wish to target. I do feel however that the entry to the point might not work that well.

Perhaps look at the interests that people of that age group share and rather target niches there. Also get involved with webmasters that offer website relevant to those niches, for example "Play Bowles" or something more relevant to that age group... Get back links from them and invite them to your forum. Also get some moderators to help you out in posting some threads on your forum.

Hi,

I have 2 domains

1. http://www.eldersandbetters.com
2. http://www.eldersnbetters.com

Originally we design the site with address http://www.eldersnbetters.com/ then
then we change our mind and brought another domain to direct to http://www.eldersandbetters.com so all the code, pages, database are in http://www.eldersnbetters.com

Which domain should be optimised?

my robot text is here http://www.eldersnbetters.com/home/robots.txt will the search engines still see it? I thought the robot text needs to be here http://www.eldersnbetters.com/robots.txt

I had original thought to give some helpful advice - but have no clue where to begin.

In your current website structure you have made your design too complex - it is difficult to appreciate what are your important pages beyond the default page. Your main nav buttons (I think) don't seem to be the important part of the website (what you desire to rank) and the Javascript iFrame wrapper makes the forum impossible for search engines to crawl (and I would think that is the part you desire being found in search engines???

Re-think your designed structure so that the pages most important (after the default page) are easily accessible to crawlers - all other SEO considerations are moot if this isn't thoroughly thought out.

unfornately this site has been designed using the CMS softare called mambo, the forum is inside a wrapper like a frame. they way mambo works is that it does not hold any pages the information and text come from a database.

What can I do????

Mambo has a internal facility where you can put meta, seo info

I have put this in;

meta name="description" content="Meet over 50's like you, chat about jobs over 50, gardening advice, senior travel, senior health issues, retirement pensions.

meta name="keywords" content="mature chat rooms, jobs for over 50, fitness over 50, old age pension, gardening adivce, gardening forum, senior dating, senior travel, senior health, senior care, jobs for senior, senior meet people, senior living, senior services, fitness over 50, retirement pension, senior chat rooms, jobs for woman over 50, senior services"

meta name="Generator" content="Mambo - Copyright 2000 - 2006 Mambo Foundation. All rights reserved."

meta name="robots" content="index, follow"

what do you think of this???

Those tags will do little (if anything to help).

I'm not familiar with the CMS - so you may wish to check to see if there is an archive version of the forum (that pools the data in a spider friendly archive without graphics)... but before you invest "alot of time" this needs to be understood.

A marketing tip

Sky,

most people are aspirational. They like to dream a little. I'm 50 next year and the visuals on the site show old codgers. Some of us still play rugby and go out to pubs. If the site is aimed at over 65s leave it as it is. But if you want some 50-55s, give the site a little spice.
