Hi Everyone!
The last two months have been absolutely crazy for me and I've unfortunately neglected my moderator duties here, but as a consolation I'll not only be spending more time here, but I've been doing a bit of recruiting as well. Everyone basically knows where I work at right? Well as Head of Search my duties are evolving into an Ambassador rather than a 'hands-on' guy. I'll still be consulting our Heads of Departments during weekly meetings, but my position now is to speak at conferences and enhancing our visibility in Europe. This lends a fantastic opportunity to meet and greet more potential members to this Forum - The Best SEO Forum - So everyone keep their eyes open more mew members and their posts and help them out, as I will be doing. I've just returned from the Online Marketing Show where, thanks to another company pulling out (hangover I expect), I had 2 speaker spots covering my Top 12 SEO Tips for 2008. I mentioned SEO Chat on many occasions and even personally invited many others outside of the session to join our community. Here's the great part - While at the conference several people approached me with compliments on the content and delivery (NO COMMERCIALS!) of my sessions and offered additional conferences to speak at, and even keynote another. I may even be getting a slot at some of the SMX events as I met the German Director Matthew Finley (fingers crossed). Others will be; CAP Euro - 2 Shows CAC Euro - 2 Shows A4U - Affiliates 4 U 3 - Sessions Online Marketing Show (Germany) (Keynote) iDate/Social Networking Conference As well as many e-Consultancy Roundtables and training sessions over the next 12 months. I hope to meet as many of you as possible if you attend any of these shows. If any of these charge for admission, let me know and I'll get you comp tickets. I'm hoping to make a few US conferences in the next 12 months as well - despite the 10-12 hr turn-around time each way. So remember to watch for these potential new members and say hi and lets re-build this communitywith new and upcoming new stars! Hi Gary,
I am relatively new to this SEO field and a new member in this forum. I just checked your post "Top 12 SEO Tips for 2008" at your blog and couldn't understand few things you have mentioned at your post. Quote:
Could you please explain the following: 1) What is "internal doorway page built for closer-to-the-root-file' navigation"? 2) What is "longtail keyword phrase"? And also it would be nice if you can give a simple explanation of the above mentioned statement. |

What is "longtail keyword phrase"?
This is a phrase rather then a one or two keywords you put into the google search. In other words trying to rank for completely long phrases which people might put into the search engine. The best way to do this is to have well written content and get long phrased links into your pages. As for the first point, im not entirely sure what he was refering to |

Spiders crawl your site according to your xml file configuration or your site navigation. By adding a doorway page next to the root (Ie. www.site.com/doorway) and then using that page to place new keyword links to new internal pages Ie. www.site.com/doorway/keyword-phrase) you will get a boost in your attempts for good rankings for that keyword because the link-juice is passed on to the internal page from the home page.
I use this technique when adding a new product or when going after a new 'hot topic' phrase. GaryTheScubaGuy |

Hi everyone!
This looks like a great place to learn what I am lacking in my SEO skills. Im looking forward to being seriously involved here and meeting some new people. I am from Maine and as fall approaches I spend as much time outside as I can without neglecting my business because it is a long cold winter here and that leaves lots of time to study new techniques and learn. |
