    Nasee Your so early 2000's.
That doesn't work anymore, a link on a forum can be good for trafic if it's within your niche, but not so much for seo.

I have to disagree with Naseemkaloo,

First of all most of forum links are nofollow and will not have any impact on your rankings as no follow links are not taken into account by google algo.
Secondly when links are do follow, then most of the time they have nothing to do with the main subject of the page, on here for exemple you could post a link to your website for help purposes (most of the time a mod will remove the link) and your website subject has nothing to do with SEO or any related subject. In this case not only it will not help your rankings but on a mass scale it could actually have the opposite effect. The semantic of the pages are totally different. It is also to be noticed that link building is against Google TOS and could get you a nice little algorithmic or manual penalty.

On the other hand if you sell electric devices and participate on a forum that talks about electric devices then these links (if destination pages are chosen wisely) could help you get qualified trafic so you could get some benefits such as leads or sales. Eg : I found some clients on this forum. But this should not be your primary objective. Forums are there to share info for free and help people out. If you try using them for link spam purposes you are a pain for mods that's all.

Forums isnt always about giving free information, that has to do with the owner but if one can work it right one can get good traffic from one and make a new client or
Show others who just read follow suite. But dont depend to make it a link giver, that'll get you banned, and most good forums will slap you silly b-4 You know it. So be careful.

Tell this to my competitors who have received 500 000 nofollow links from the forums over the past six months, so their traffic has grown to 1.5M visitors per month.

Forum posting helps you gain good quality backlinks to site, also its a good platform to promote your products and services and if you possess any queries you can get your queries resolved and can get better suggestions from the experts.

Which one of the major search engines counted those then?

Even if forum links are 'followed', they count for nothing these days. Has been like this for a decade methinks.

Best to step up and get modern....

    Ummm...no.

Unless you go viral, but then you wouldn't need forums at all.

    Let make things clear :

    - It is possible to get a high amount of traffic from forum posting,
    - Forum posting and no follow links have no direct impact on rankings.

It helps, do not waste too much time on it

don't make it one of your main strategies.

It can very much help with traffic to your website as well (in a lot of cases, which you built a lot of "trust" in)

Don't use forums to help your rankings in the search engines or your wasting your time, it's been said over and over above.
    Time to lock this one.
