My burning SEO questions!
Two unrelated burning questions:
1) is it true that you should not put your key words more than 3 times in your meta keywords tag, even within key phrases? (eg: I can't have "free, free stuff, free stuff Australia, Australian free stuff" because 'free' is there 4 times) 2) I have learned about SEO the hard way - many hours of scouring the web looking for 'secrets', most of which I read here in 5 mins flat (hmf). My question: why is it, that after applying the same SEO tips to my new site (ozemall) as my old site (freebiebombard), that my old site has a PR of between 4 - 5 & is in the top 10 for most of my key words/phrases, yet my new site has a PR of 0, and the only time you find my site in a SE is when you type the actual name "ozemall" and not a key phrase like "shopping Australia" |

To increase the PR of your new site, you need to acquire backlinks (links from other sites that point to your page), preferably using whatever keyword phrase you wish to optimize for as the anchor text (underlined link text) of the backlink. Most likely, you can find ozemall easier than shopping Australia, because the first is much less competitive than the second. You'll probably need very good optimization and lots of backlinks to compete for shopping Australia.

yet my new site has a PR of 0, and the only time you find my site in a SE is when you type the actual name "ozemall" and not a key phrase like "shopping Australia" ===== You have ozemall in the title of all your pages. I was taught not to use the name of my company in the title; because people won't use your company name to search; unless you're microsoft of course. |

Yah, I'd ditch the company name in the title.

Thanks for your suggestions.
Yes I have been actively seeking backlinks as I did for my first site. I didn't think about the company name being in the title - perhaps I should ditch it yes, Thanks! |

there's no problem with putting company name in the title .... yeah its true that not many ppl will search fro ozemall .. but just think that a searcher finds the more or less same phrase in the title of all the results from 1-10 ... so ur company name will help it in distinguishing ... and when a person wants to come back to ur website long after he/she has forgotten the company name by searching it in SE he will quickly see the title and click in ur website even if its at no 4 position .. get rid of PHPSESSID u should have unique title for each page

Thanks.
I think once I get some pagerank I will put my company name back in the title tag. I have removed phpsessid, thanks for the advice. My outbound links look like http://www.ozemall.com.au/out.php?entryID=35 is this ok or does google want to see outbound links with my keywords in them? Thanks everybody for your help! Hy ...a good advice
First of all, when you start a new site...do not try to optimize it for the so called perfect Keywords : Like : Internet , or shopping Australia....try something other(at the beginning)....like:Secure Australian shopping ...
Acoording to the G...you have 35 Backlinks all those have less than Pr 4 (www.findasite.com.au/;www.emailcash.com.au/) And before I forgat ...loos the : http://www.ozemall.com.au/index.php?catid=14 ...try to be more creative ....http://www.ozemall.com.au/health-beauty.html) Your keyword occurrences are: shopping 6 11.32% australia 5 9.43% directory 4 7.55% shops 4 7.55% || 4 7.55% shopping australia 3 5.66% Thats more like it shopping directory 3 5.66% online 2 3.77% font-family 2 3.77% comic 2 3.77% sans 2 3.77% ms 2 3.77% font-size 2 3.77% Sorry ...and I hope that this will help .... Hi Leo,
I really appreciate your help on this. I have some questions about your suggestions. What do you mean by "perfect keywords". Do you mean single words? Do I take these out of the meta tags? Its hard to find backlinks of higher PR because I invite Australian online shops to swap links and many of those are not using any SEO and those who are using SEO seem unrelated to my site What do you suggest I do here? Why do you think I should not search for many links at the beginning, and pace it? What do you mean by "a 4 zero number" - do you mean PR4 or 40 backlinks? At the moment I am trying very hard to get rid of the http://www.ozemall.com.au/index.php?catid=14 and get a static url like beauty.html (if anyone knows how please reply to my post: http://forums.devshed.com/showpost.php?p=704600&postcount=11) Just as I was finding solutions for rewriting the url as static, my webhost goes down (and has been up and down over the last 72 hours!!!). I have saved every page and loaded it up again and it is now linked from the sitemap only. I might need a whole new links script that allows static urls however I have lost Ftp and cpanel access because of that darned webhosts' problems. Thanks for your input!
