Multiple domain names - Dilemma
I have 3 domain names that relate to my site.
dn#1 = http://www.fitcareproducts.com dn#2 = http://www.airfitbackrest.com dn#3 = http://www.selfinflatingbackrest.com Initially I registered dn#1 (the name of my company). Several months later I registered dn#2 and dn#3 (the name of my product) and "parked" them at dn#1. I use dn#2 in all my marketing. Users can arrive at my site via dn#1, dn#2, or dn#3. dn#1, dn#2, and dn#3 are being indexed by the main search engines. All the links that I submit to directories, search engins, and page links on my site, etc. reference dn#2. Questions: Should I have my host change my "main" domain name from dn#1 to dn#2 since that is the one I always reference? Can the way its set up currently be detrimental to Page Rank or site placement in the search engines? Thank You! Last edited by SEO_AM : January 29th, 2005 at 08:00 PM. Reason: Removed live links. |

Best to put up individual sites for each url. As for changing one for the other I'm not sure about that.
Visit the most comprehensive Las Vegas Real Estate, Las Vegas Golf Homes, Las Vegas High Rise Condos and Las Vegas Homes website online. |

Having mutiple domains parked at the same place could lead to a duplicate content problem, which could mean your site being bumped down the rankings or even dropped from the index altogether.
As Crichey said, you would be best to have individual sites for each domain name. However, if you don't have the time to create and maintain 3 separate sites, and build up links etc, then you would be best to set up 301 permanent redirects from two of the domains to whichever domain you pick as your main site. Eventually the search engines will consolidate the weight and links etc that each domain has picked up into your main site. You will also remove any duplicate content filter penalties you may have incurred. You should note though that it can take a couple of months for that to be finalised. Cheers John |
