The better answer would be that they don't hold a LOT of weight in Google, especially the keyword meta. Description is useful and I would suggest you use it. Google will sometimes use this as the snippet, and when it does so, that snippet is usually just what you'd want it to say, as opposed to the sometimes strange parts of the content Google decided to pick as the snippet. Keywords is more of a "do it if you want, because a few search engines still use it", but its not important to Google. However, Inktomi does use it, and Inktomi may be the next big thing, so.... Personally, I'd rather give up a little space and use both meta tags.
