Link page on main site or....
Hi,
I have been exchanging links with other sites and doing 1 way links to my site for SEO. I was wondering instead of having a link page on my website, would it be better to start up a link directory under a different domain name? I run my ecommence business at home so the new website will be under the same IP. Would this be better? Last edited by aussieperfumes : July 22nd, 2008 at 08:43 PM. |

As for your links page, I think this is pretty useless too because Google's very good at detecting reciprocal and purchased links, and then discounting them. What I would suggest is to get your recips in context. Both when you're linking out and are being linked to by partners, make sure the link is put somewhere within relevant content. But frankly, the best way to go about getting links is to forget about link exchanges and just add something interesting to your website. Assuming you have a perfumes store, think about what kind of interesting or useful content you can add to your site to make people want to link to your site without you asking. For example, you can write up some witty how-to articles about perfumes etc. This is just one idea; your imagination is the limit here. And about IP addresses, it doesn't matter where you operate the website from because no one but yourself will know about it. Your website's IP refers to the server on which the domain is hosted. If you want to start a new website under a different IP you can ask your host for a separate C block IP address or you can buy hosting for the new site elsewhere. |

I would create another domain and move my link directory there from my ecommence business. I would ask new websites to link to my ecommence business website while ill link from my new domain to theirs. I thought this would be a good idea??? Quote:
I should worry about recip links at all? It can be hard enough to find links to my website that are one way links. Last edited by aussieperfumes : July 23rd, 2008 at 04:44 AM. |

OK I guess I misunderstood you on your first post. That isn't a bad strategy although it wouldn't be hard for search engineer (or even the engine itself) to identify both the store and the directory as owned by the same person. I have very little experience with this type of situation but I think you still run a big chance of having your reciprocals discounted.
I'm not saying you should totally forget reciprocal linking; if you're doing it, it's better to do it with in-context links. But in the long run, your one-way links will be the ones that you can count on. Unless you're an expert at linkbuilding, you'll probably find it very challenging to get quality one-way links... but this is all the more reason for you to do so because your competitors are going to make excuses and go for the cheaper strategies. As I've said, focus on serving your site visitors with better content, better products etc. This will take you a LONG way. |

As Pacific Monk said, natural links are the best. Unless you have different registrars on your commerce site and directory site, it'll be very easy for the SEs to detect the reciprocal links and discount them.

How about setting up a directory under your domain like submit.yourdomainname.com or directory.yourdomainname.com? That's what we did with our directory.

what would the point be? At the moment i'm using www.domain.com/link/ We all know that one way links (natural links) are the best but seriously, it's what i'm trying for but if i can pickup a recripocal link which is related to my website I will. Sometimes i think i shouldn't even bother with recripocal links due to what people say on this forum. When i look at my competitors, 80% of them have recripocal links. But some dont at all? Its depend on your link partner. If they are approving of this kind of activity than where is the problem. |
