Exclamation Is link juice transferred through fake links?

I am discovering more and more backlinks towards legit sites, but with no actual links.

For example, check this url and its backlinks:
SEOLeadership - Five Powerful Search Engine Optimisation Techniques By Self Proclaimed 1 "White Hat" Thought Leader In SEO Eitan Gorodetsky - Travel Manitoba

This url has a DA of 62 and all links target popular domains, but the final links are including spam words and they result at 404

So, I wonder what is the purpose of doing this. Is someone trying to connect such legit sites to spam links so they will get some Google penalty?
Because I can't believe that the actual sites are involved into this to receive the link juice in that way.

Very interesting. I don't understand it, unless they think that a live keyword embedded link to a 404 page will add to their own SEO, and not pass link juice. But in fact, link juice is still spent. It's just lost in space and does not benefit anyone. But why direct the links to questionable sites? They either know something I don't, or they are wasting resources.

And of course, DA is not Google's metric. This site could be a complete joke.

And this SEOleadership exists in many other websites and forums.
So the same person must hide behind this and there is some sort of pattern.

Either he is too advanced or too ignorant.

Regarding the link juice, the referring domains show to be active at Ahrefs for the connected websites with the non-existing pages. So if Ahrefs finds them does it mean that the juice is coming through?

I don't totally understand your question here. There is one referring domain. But link juice can pass on all indexed pages, whether it is a large amount or nothing.

I am just stating the fact that Ahrefs recognises normally the connection between the 2 sites, so I still wonder what is happening with the link juice.

Link juice does not flow to a page that is not indexed, although the referring page still loses it.
