I may be adding new job responsibilities to my exisiting job.
Really I would be managing our SEO service that we have through a company. Looking to get up to speed on what SEO is all about and how to know what is going on. FYI- OUR COMPANY OUTSOURCES OUR SEO - I AM MANAGING THEM, MAKING SURE THEY ARE DOING WHAT THEY NEED TO. I WILL NOT BE PERSONALLY DOING THE WORK, JUST MONITORING. Please dont refer books, I have no time to read with 2 small kids at home. I am looking for a training class in CT or NYC. ANY IDEAS? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE! -D Last edited by debbidotcom : September 29th, 2008 at 11:46 AM. |

Most classes I've heard about teach the "basics" of SEO which just happen to be 5 years out-of-date. Your best bet is to read the threads on forums like this one. In no particular order, searchengineland.com, forums.seroundtable.com, forums.searchenginewatch.com and seomoz (and, of course, this forum) all can provide valuable, up-to-date information but it will be up to you to sift through the it.

There are a few white pages you could read, but anything static can be wrong too quickly in SEO. However, if you have very limited time available to work, SEO may be a bit tough as you will have to devote time to researching for your own site (not to mention any client sites if you're going that route). Good luck! |

It seems you should know what you'll be doing before you accept a job doing it Quote:
Ouch the keyword "no time" really disqualifies you from learning seo as it takes time... if you think your going to take a 5 day course and learn all there is to know about seo your wrong. Your going to have to find time to sit down and learn seo... I can think of no better place than here but you will be doing alot of readin(not books but forum posts... either way its text) and that takes time... Quote:
I know of no courses... and I wouldn't recommend them if I did. I recommend you FIND time and learn seo by reading this forum.

If you're going to be managing outsourced SEO's, you better know your stuff.
It's all too easy for an SEO to claim they're doing a great job for you, when not. That's the difference between a good SEO and a bad one. They may both get good results, but what does that mean: BAD SEO= shows you attractive numbers. Ex. lots of links, lots of "hits", shows you ranking, maybe even a lot of traffic. GOOD SEO= shows you sales. PERIOD. A good SEO works for their client to build up conversions. This means quality traffic anyway they can get it at the least cost. This ain't easy, and if you don't have the time to understand it, then you could be lead to believe that you're doing a great job of managing them.
