Invitation to a blog network. Will this help or hurt SEO?

Hi ya'll -
I received an invitation to add my blog to a blog network called Demand Studios: demandstudios dot com. Is this is good idea for SEO or bad? Can it help or hurt my SEO? Does anyone know anything about this blog network? And are blog networks good in general or not helpful? I'm concerned about if this would cause duplication of content out there and penalize me. Or can it help and should I try to find more of these out there?

Based on what I've seen on a quick search of reviews, it is more of a freelance blog type of thing (hiring people to write blogs for $15 a piece). I haven't seen anything where they have used another site's blog.

Before you agree to that, check out their blog network. See if there are any duplicate content blogs, and if so, are they canonical to the sites they duplicated from?

My first reaction is to avoid it, though.
