Internal linking - best way
What is the best format to use for internal links?
Like if you are linking to your homepage from an internal page within the site, should you use "/", "index.html" or the full url http://www.domain.com ? What about the other internal pages? Full urls or "filename".html? Thank you. |

If you are strictly a static site, don't have multiple URLs, subdomains, never plan to move your site or have https://, then relative linking /cat/page.html - is fine. Otherwise, I'd use absolute URLs in the link - www.site.com/cat/page.html

Thank you randfish.
My sites are static, I pretty much have each page like this: http://www.domainname.com/file.html , I don't use subdirectories (/cat/) So, if I'm linking to my homepage internally I would use this: "/" not "index.html" right? Thanks again |

funny, I'm finding this a controversial topic, seems like people don't agree
some people recommend using absolute urls to make it difficult for site content thieves others say that you want a hompage link as an absolute because that is what is linked to externally very confusing |

Absolutely absolute
As randfish has said, you can use either. I prefer absolute for all links and am very...very close to looking at absolute to image files as well.
Cheers
