    Immediate effect on SERP's

I have a client that is having some very strange behaviour.

We added a location address in his footer:
    Central London
    London, United Kingdom

This is exactly the same as a competitor. I thought because it was so generic it wouldn't count as dupe content.

We also didn't get any flags on GSC or MOZ for dupe content.

But, just after we did this (within 24hrs) his site disappeared from the SERP's BUT ONLY on mobile. The desktop SERP's was still normal.

So, my client was freaking out and I was telling him "No, there is no way this small change could have possibly have removed your site from the SERP's, especially JUST the mobile serps."

And then we decided to remove it.

And BOOM! It's back up, within like 30 mins?

What the hell is going on here?

Sounds very strange - please either put the site and key word search here (with dot instead of . in the URL) or pm me it.

What does GSC say about the last crawl date - can you check your logs for the last crawl from Googlebot.

I think this is probably unrelated.

It is very common for websites to briefly disappear from SERPs, and your change would not be reflected within a half hour.

Google also announced that there was a bug with their deindexing and roughly 4% of indexed pages were deindexed over the weekend. Not saying it is but might be the reason.

Exactly, this is what I have been trying to explain to the client. But he is all gungho and isn't really listening to advice. Also, we have competitors that are using BH techniques to hurt us, so there is this external force also having an impact. So, it's essentially impossible to know which cause had which effect! Welcome to SEO!
