    Image Backlinks

    Hello:

This my first time posting here, and I am new to the field of SEO. So thanks in advance for any assistance!

The website I am optimizing against in Google shows 21 Referring Domains and 1,433 External Backlinks. The Backlink Breakdown shows Images: 942.

Can someone please explain what this means, and how you go about getting backlinks from images? Is the URL contained inn the EXIF data from the image, or is a URL reference made in the IMG ALT attribute?

    Thanks,

    Grayson

An image back link is a link (using the A anchor tag with an appropriate href attribute pointing to your URL) from one site to your site using an image as the clickable and linked element.

A text back link is a link from one site to your site using text as the clickable and linked element.

    An Image Back Link
    Code:
    <a href="www.mysite.com"><img src="any-image.jpg" alt="Keyword Here" /></a>
An Test Back Link (should be text back link - not a Test OK back link - although maybe these are needed too!)
    Code:
    <a href="www.mysite.com">This is Anchor Text</a>

I think I understand. How would be the best way to optimize against that level of competition? At first glance, it would appear that an awful lot of inbound links are coming from a relatively small number of unique URLs.
