I'm losing visitors because I changed my URLs, what can I do?
Hello, first of all, sorry for my awful English.
My website is a forum made with wordpress. I've being recieving almost 300 visitors per day. But i've recently changed the URLs in the forums module.
The threads were called /forums/topic and I've changed it for /foro/topic ("forums" in Spanish). I did it thinking about improve my positions in the searches including the word "foro".
Now I'm not even recieving 100 visitors, I've lost a lot of positions in almost all of the searches people were making to find the website and I don't know what to do.
Google is still indexing the new URLs.
I've read that I can redirect some of the old URLs to the new ones changing something in the htacces but I don't know how can I do that and what should I modify.
Can someone help me?
Thank you in advance. (I also accept grammar tips)

try changing it back.Changing sub pages like that will make you drop.

And what will happen? I mean, there are a lot of new pages indexed and the old ones don't appear in the searches anymore.
Am I on time to fix this?

Try this code in your htaccess
If the above doesn't work, give the following a try
RewriteRule ^forums/(.*)$ /foro/$1 [R=301,NC,L]
RewriteRule ^forums/(.*)$ http://www.yourdomain.com/foro/$1 [R=301,L]

Thank you. I tried both, right now with the second one. I guess I have to wait until Google update my indexed URLs, haven't I?

I changed it because I thought it would be better for SEO if all the URLs contain the spanish word. Because "foro" for me is an important keyword. My web was recieving about 200 visits per day. A week after the change I'm recieving about 150 and still recovering positions.

The another option is that you can add a sub domain with the foro name, It will also help you according to seo.
Change in url is not worthwhile, Domain age is also worthy in seo.
