If you have to ask the question... then you probably don't have content. Great content sites might include... webmd.com webelements.com badastronomy.com epodunk.com

Good content means:
1- original content, not copied 2- a little lengthy, but not much 3- Includes targetted keywords within a reasonable density 4- includes text, and not only links And the most important rule to follow: build content for your visitors, not for search engines. If you think your website will not look good in your visitor's eye, then probably the content is bad. Example: don't repeat keyword phrases in a silly way that doesn't make any sense. Don't over link, don't over optimize, just make it look natural |

I agree with danielmar. Plus I would say that a BIG reason to develop unique content is to give readers a reason and enough value that they will bookmark your site or tell others. If you have ongoing traffic due to loyal visitors then you aren't as dependent on the Google God's whims and algo changes for your traffic.
So to determine for yourself "what good content is when it comes to a site that your average guy might build." Read your site as if you were a visitor and ask yourself, would this content interest me, is it of value and does it make me want to read on? Hope this helps and best of luck!
