I googled my competitor's backlinks and found this...

They have a couple of backlinks to a website called bilderbeste

From what I see after clinking in, it is just a trashy website in German that has loads of images for visitors to download for free (maybe not even royalty free).

Is this a stealth website that SEO companies made for themselves to get the SEO work done?

A YouTuber suggested that we do a search on Google on the competitor that ranks on the 1st position on SERP with the competitor's URL, then we shall
go down the list to see how we can get our backlink on the same websites. Is this the correct way to do off page SEO?

If it is a trashy website in a foreign language, chances are google is ignoring that link.

For competitive research, you want to see which reputable website your competitor is getting links from. For example, if they are getting a link from wsj.com, then you want to see how they did it so you can do the same. I wouldn't worry too much about those "trashy" sites.

You want to build out a back link profile that is higher quality than your competition but not obviously so, so this means targeting slightly better back links than theirs, and all of their good ones.

If a site is trashy - that is a sure fire sign its not a worthwhile link prospect.
