First, sorry that my "Hulk Humour" may have fallen a bit flat - no plans to partner with Buckwheat ...
I've been lurking for quite some time, and have followed some of the hints/suggestions in seo guy's tutorial and from others - thanks for the excellent resources. Didn't have any specific questions - I've done most of what is the obvious stuff - title tag, keywords in my inbound anchor text, keywords in H1 tags, etc. But I do this as a sideline hobby, so I was curious to get any advice from the SEO pros. I'm targetting "Halloween Decorations" (and lights) which I am in the top-20 for (I've been using a home-grown tool for quite some time that does automated Google API queries, similer to the excellent work Shawn has done). I'm also targetting Halloween Webcam since I figure that is appropriate - see the anchor text in my first post! ;-) Thanx, alek (aka the Hulkster) P.S. Thanx seo guy for the compliment on the lights - not as "brilliant" as 22,000 xmas lights were last year, but the Hulk adds a nice affect. User interface stuff is always challenging, so any comments on that (especially the operation of the webcam) are also appreciated. |

Yah, more pages...
Hi Hulk,
BroadProspect hit it on the head. Try breaking these pages up into 2-3 smaller ones, interlinked. You've got a lot of stuff on here. And that hulk image is a whopping 127 k. Try to get it a lot smaller. In my experience the whole PAGE should be down around 15-20k... Finally, as a matter of personal taste I'd get that description tag to be a bit longer, and lose the weird characters before your page title. Try it - I'll bet it's worth a couple spots... |

Thanx for the hints guys - I'm not sure I want to break it up that much - better to have one "good" page than several "so-so" ones ... and the actual text isn't very much. I did JPEG compress the images a bit, but I'm fairly certain Google ignores the actual size of the images for SEO, so this is more a user-interface issue ... gotta balance out the slow dial-up users with a "resonable" image.
Here is the final 2003 Halloween Lights page - now it's time to get out my Christmas Lights! ;-) alek |
