    HTTP to HTTPS?

    Hello All,

I am trying to do HTTP to HTTPS migration.

    My questions are:

    1. What Points Do I need to Keep in Mind before doing HTTP to HTTPS?
    2. Do I have to add the new property in Webmaster tools and Google Analytics?

    Thanks in Advance!

Number 2. you mentioned is the most important for Google to realise it is your "old" website with new domain, because it will be considered as completely new domain for couple of weeks, you will lose your position completely.

    This is not true....

If you do a 301 redirect from http to https properly, you will not lose Your rankings...
but in your GSC account when you create the https property you will see the traffic dry up on the http property and see the https property pick up in traffic. This is quite normal behavior and takes about 2 days for the effect to be seen.

Ok, let's say KnowOneSpecial is right , because he has "just" a tone of experience more than I do ;),
but I told you about my experience with my website.
I have a website that ranks on 1st page of G for most of the keywords, and even first position of 1st page.

I switched to https in the end of 2016th (about 20th of December), without getting too much info about that change at all.
I went to a trip in begging of January, and it was around 15th of January when I realised that my website is GONE from Google!
    Zip, nada, nowhere, nothing!
Do I need to mention I went crazy that night (and the days following) ),
because I make a living for me/my family from that website.
To make it even worse, I was without WiFi, on some terrible mobile Internet.

I ran to some Caffè with WiFi, goggled about http to https change, and the first thing I read I needed to do is to add a https property in my GSC, so that G would know that it is my website (something like that).
I did it somehow via my mobile phone (memories to those nights are painful) , I remember that after 4-5 (LONG) days my position in google was back!

I said that I switched to https around 20th of December, let's say my positions were gone in beginning of January maybe (nobody knows when), I noticed it about 15th of January, and about 20th of January my positions were back, after adding a https property in my GSC.
Just my experience, it can be avoided probably by this that KnowOneSpecial said.

Also, you have (speaking to theme creator) a complete Google manual how to do a https switch properly as I remember. Google it... ;)

    Dear Members,
Let's not inspire people to be lazy here. If someone is seeking an answer he should search first. If they cannot, instead of answering the same questions, again and again, lets direct them to the thread best answered.
