For start seo you must know what is on-line and off-line seo. On-line seo is quickly done: meta tags, keywords, titles, unique content, H1 tags, meta and title of images..i think this is pretty much.
But when you dane on-line it's actualy strating seo for of-line which is never ending story. About this many posts have been written...

3 posts and already getting on people... you could start by reading the rules and regs of the forum. Any signature links are allowed.

Secondly, Js is absolutely correct. Read, read and when you think you've read enough, read some more. There is a wealth of information in this entire forum. So, you are already on the right course to learn about SEO if you do so desire.

I will give you the benefit of the doubt and answer your question. How you start learning was already covered.

How much time it gets? Lots. If you don't put in the time, you won't get out of if what you can. There is nothing quick about SEO. It takes time, patience, testing, analyzing the results, testing some more and re-analyzing the results and finding new, innovative ways to deliver traffic to your site. As a famous member around here says, Rinse-wash-repeat.

Is it difficult? That is entirely up to you. I will tell you that an abrasive attitude will not get you far around here. There are many members here who have all sorts of knowledge and different strong points. If you are patient and put in some time to read the information that is posted (including stickies) you'll likely find it a lot easier to learn. If you don't understand something, then ask specific questions and you'll likely get specific answers.

If you are looking for someone to give you all the answers with little to no work from you, I suggest a quick change in attitude or move on. If you are ready to learn and try this career on for size, welcome to one of the best, free avenues to learn about SEO.

How you figure? There is nothing irrelevant about my link anyhow, you just don't understand it's purpose. If you would ask instead of assume, then I'd be glad to tell you it's part of an experiment posing the value of a KID versus forum backlinks (both of which are pointless tactics - I'm just curious which pile weighs more).

So to reply to your opening question - a vague question gets a vague answer. If you want to learn "how to do seo for a website" don't start off by asking a question that has numerous answers already available. There are many facets to SEO, to list them all right here, for the umpteenth million time simply because you ask a vague question would be a complete waste of time. So I say - Read. As noted above, the sticky notes are a good place to start. That's why they're stickies.

you will have to research and identify the top websites discussing the industry.
The pros is that it can turn for you lots of profits
The cons is that rules change, and you have to stay up to date.

Have you asked the SEO team at your company? They seem to offer SEO services, why not ask them?

it is really a general question to answer properly
I guess, may be just start with reading more books about SEO and communicating with others in this forums.
Then , you will know more and post more specific questions
many successes!
