I removed the guestbook from my website because of people doing this. It might not fit the definition of spam, but it's rude none the less.

Thats true, it is rude as hell! What you might want to do is just disallow it in the robots.txt file . Dont let it help them!

Okay Josh... I put it back up and learned how to but one of those robot no index/ no follow thingyabobbers on. I don't know how to do the robot.txt file, but I'm off to research it and figure it out.

This is precisely what is wrong with the Pagerank system. So it is not about exchanging links with quality sites, but instead is about exhanging links with sites that have a high PR.

Actually you are all pointing out one important fact that I think Asher brought up and should be emphasised

Use throw away sites for testing - I have 3/4 out there and very obviously so does Webby and Asher

Don't use your important sites
