    Hello,

How relevant are H2's in SEO? Do they affect SEO at all?

    Thank you.

H2 is an important tag which navigates visitors to a specific section of web content. So it is very much effective for SEO.

Ok, thanks. In my website, I say I serve the following communities which is about 20 of them. They fall under the h2 headings, should I mention them?

Think of them more like a newspaper headlines and not for SEO. Don't use <h2>, <h3> etc for SEO. Use it for the viewers. You'll have one <h1> tag for the page title and if you need to break your site into sections, use the <h2>, <h3> etc to suit.

Totally agree on that. I've heard "rumors" that it's important to keep them in order (h1,h2,h3) and not use them "out of place." Any merit to that?

We use H2 tag for writing subheading, it is an important tag, but if in any webpage H1 tag is not present then no use of H2 tag. So in the of designing web page we should be careful.

I use wordpress. Are you saying if there is no h1 tag, you shouldn't use the h2 tag?

    I haven't seen a WP site that doesn't use a <h1> as it's title.

Using h2 tags largely depends on the way the content of your webpage is structured. Subheadings that take the second priority in the web flow should be made h2. SEO point of view you should use less than 6 h2 tags in your web.

How relevant are H2's? More relevant than H3's...but less relevant than H1's.

H1's are used sparingly. You typically only want one H1 per page. You can use H2's more freely. Unlike H1's which are used as the page title/headline, H2's are really used to designate subheadings and improve readability for users.

We can use as many Header tags depends on the template as well content. Each Header tag Represents some importance under that tag. Header tags tell about the importance of your content. I'm not sure either h2 helps or not but it indicates some kind of important info to Users as well crawler.
