Question How to rank a page for a keyword in multiple cities?

    Hi,

My website is targeting whole country. It's not location related. We dont have offices but we serve the whole nation. We dont have pages to cover multiple cities.

For one specific keyword, we used to rank in multiple locations but now we are ranking only on few locations (first page) and in other locations, we are not ranking at all. But the keywords are not location-related.

Why the same page optimized for same keyword ranking first page in few locations and not ranking in some locations.

    Thanks a lot

You need to specify all the interesting locations on your page with keywords. It can be cities, districts, streets. Anything you need. And, of course, the keywords should be on the page. Locations can be specified optionally next to the keyword.

Doorway pages, city pages, location pages…there are many names for these pages on a website but they all aim to achieve the same thing. They want to target keywords for a specific location. While these pages worked for targeting local cities for several decades, Google has recently put the kibosh on them and even announced an effort to go after websites that have them specifically.

    1. Relevance – how well your search term matches the query
    2. Distance – how far your query is from the business
    3. Prominence – how well known they are plus stuff like (links, reviews, articles, and directories)

If you are targeting for specific country or location then mention it in your blog.
It will definitely show up in results.

Create Separate Pages for all Your States and Cities
Ranking each target market high in the search engine results page is virtually impossible unless you create and optimize content for each and every one of your locations. This means that each location must have a unique URL and each URL and the pages that come with it need to be included in the sitemap. This allows for search engines such as Google and Yahoo to index your content properly, which is one of the requirements for search engine optimization.

    Hello,

So, if you want to get visibility in multiple cities but don’t have an address in each one, there is one method that will still deliver results in 2016. If you can’t have an address in every city, and you need it to rank in the maps listings, what else is there to do? Your best bet is to focus on the organic listings. There is still hope to rank in the organic listings if you don’t have an address there. It is perfectly “legal” to do this but you are going to have to find your comfort level. What some consider perfectly white hat SEO, others raise an eyebrow to. My best advice for this is to follow Google’s definition of what a doorway page is:

    • having multiple pages or domains that target a specific city
    • pages made to funnel visitors into one portion of your site
    • “Substantially similar pages that are closer to search results than a clearly defined, browseable hierarchy”

If you are just starting out, start by trying to rank in one city. If you are in a super competitive local niche like car dealerships or restaurants, you are going to have your work cut out for you anyway.

    Thanks

You can simply add targeted cities to your page or somewhere in blog, to make it rank.

At first, select your city where you want to show your website then try to create a single backlink your selected area website. It is the best and easiest way t show multiple areas.

Include cities in your keyword and build links for different cities you want to rank in. It might take some to rank in different cities as it will depend on the competition in that area.

Google is usually inclined towards local sites against the multi-nation or multi-city-based websites. This is done because of local search results giving improved relevance. Hence, making it important for businesses to be present on local listings as well.
You would need to optimise your local listing and create consistent content with relevant keywords for Google to rank you on local searches.
