    Hi kevs,

    Sorry 4 delay... (Busy day)!

If you run analytics on the page you could tell, but if you add the "noindex tag" and then ask google to "Fetch" the page after it's done, they will crawl it (immediately and probably quite regularly).

Yes... As other have said, it must go between the <head> & </head> tags (I'd put it under the <title>).

Nope Google will remove it from the serps fairly quickly, although - as databases fluctuate you may come across it at times for a while.

Mike/ CLICKY others. So I did this to perfection, inserted/ and a search today, month later; Google still brings up my site map, so I'm stumped.

how does one even know to verify it is crawling the site map?
You can verify what IPs access your pages (in this case your sitemap page) in your server log file, just need to find the Google bot IPs You can Google that

3-Will serps that occur and show the site map now be rectified? I would assume so as time goes one or maybe not? Cat is already out of the bag for those?
They will in the end but it will take a little time.

If your users do not need or use the HTML sitemap then you could error 410 the page (quicker results but no one will access this page anymore) and submit an XML sitemap to search console and provide the link to you sitemap url in your robots.txt.

Thanks Pierre, I don't understand a word here, "You can verify what IPs access your pages (in this case your sitemap page) in your server log file, just need to find the Google bot IPs You can Google that"

I need the site map, but the users should not see it, don't understand other issue.

So this will work one day? Month, that seems like enough for Google. Maybe not working? If anyone is ok with it, perhaps I can PM off site what is going on.
