How many clients/websites can you manage for SEO

    Hi Guys,

Keen to hear what you guys think.

Let's say each client is paying $2,500 a month for a full SEO campaign for 6 months. Your position is SEO Manager and what you are doing is managing entire SEO campaign with a team.

    The team is:

    1 SEO Manager (You)
1 SEO Specialist (on the keyword research, technical audit, backlink strategy, reporting)
    1 Copywriter
2 Link Builders (executing the link strategy)

As the SEO manager, you will need to check all aspects of their work, manage them and monitor their performance, communicate
with the client, monitor client performance and make adjustments when necessary.

How many clients do you think you can handle with this resource?

    ...

    Cheers.

Why don't you ask each member of the team how many clients they feel they can handle and providing each with 100% effort. What ever the lowest number one give back is your limit. But folks tend to exaggerate on what they are capable of doing.

With a 4 member team and all have a few years experience, each doing as you have pointed out part of the over all picture, maybe a dozen maybe a few more. Hard to say not knowing the level of expertise of you team.

My, my... I do all of those per one client and for a cheaper price. It surely would help if more people work on the project. For 5 persons working on a project, I think they can handle 2-3. It would help to have more copywriters than link builders, IMO.

I do not believe this is a "one size fits all" type question.

As many small businesses, my team and I "wear a lot of hats." We are a team of two coders, 3 content writers, 1 social media, 2 PPC/remarketing with 3 google certified people and we've been managing 200+ sites for about 8 years. We specialize in local SEO and all of my team are expected to produce great results (and we do!)

I'm not sure there is a way of calculating things. It depends on the client and the websites and the market, some websites need several full time SEOs (SEOs in the larger term not just on page optimisers). Some just need a couple hours work a day, some a couple hours a month. In my case sometimes I can only manage 1 client a month, sometimes I can handle 4 to 5, (but I work alone so I have to handle other things as well).

1 client a month? How do you eat on SEO revenue of 1 client per month? Not being a wise guy, seriously curious about your business model

It happened a couple times, once because that company had a substantial budget for a big website optimization (lot of content plus all the site wide changes) took me two months and yes I lived only of that during that period, otherwise as I said, I offer different services mainly web design but also translation and interpreting so depending on the other projects I have it happens that I can only handle one (not counting the local pizzeria ), but this doesn't mean that SEO is my only revenue in these particular periods.

seriously curious about your business model
I'm no on my way to be rich: ) but as long as i'm living correctly out of my work I'm happy with it

one seo specialist (me) and one awesome content writer, which is all you really need. I can usually take on about 4-5 accounts at one time, I'm also retired so the gov pays me and my content writer about 2500.00 a month. Otherwise more than 5 is way too much work and I have a hard time of taking care of everyone. I'm in retirement mode.

I absolutely despised my last job as an SEO Account Manager, a week after starting I had over 30 accounts.

Everything was outsourced (dev team in Ukraine, kids from the local college doing graphic design work, Indian link builders, crappy 0.01 per word content writing services).

Horrible agency that could not give a toss about any of their clients, reports were manipulated to the point of literally changing numbers, but (maybe unsurprisingly) the most profitable agency I've been with.

What they did spend money on was a strong sales team who would consistently reel in more clients again and again. This basically meant losing clients didn't mean anything to them really as there were always more round the corner.

Plus they were always signed up on 12 month retainers so once they signed up they were knackered really.

Lasted about three months there before moving on, horrible experience.

Depends upon you how many you can handle and how passionate you are for your work. And I m not sure but 3 or 4 are good at a time.
