Help! New site - aspx, redirects and user tracking
Before I start to panic and lose what hair I have left, can anyone give me some guidance on this subject...
We have been running our site with some success mainly due to pay per click advertising. We now have a new site that has been developed using aspx and user tracking features. I know we have done things the wrong way round but now we need to optimise the site. The index page (index.aspx) has an aspx redirect to a URL which looks like this: http://www.oursite.co.uk/(me40mvni3xboaj55rqgj4o34)/index.aspx With further links like: http://www.oursite.co.uk/(me40mvni3xboaj55rqgj4o34)/aboutus.aspx and so on... How will search engines react to this and how will it affect spidering? |

Welcome to the board!
Depending on the type of redirect, spiders might get lost at the door. Also if the spiders do get in and your server purges the sessions (me40mvni3xboaj55rqgj4o34 I'm guessing each unique user gets one) than a user might get a 404 error when they find you through the engines. Why all the tracking anyway? Google has a nice AdWords conversion tool you might want to check out or cookies. Your logs will keep a good amount of tracking for each user and you can use ClickTracks for a visual tracking tool. -PK |
