It seems to be the gem in SEO lately, feel like i been seeing these trends more and more.
But, definitely, no matter what it takes make relationships with writers to these publications. It can be the difference from 1 (or no links) to endless powerful links.

The best way to go about it from my opinion is to try and create a relationship with the author on such sites like huffpost, forbes etc. Not all the authors as there are hundreds but the ones you writes articles related to your industry. As an SEO professional I've been trying to do the same, using twitter to connect, re-tweet their tweets and share DM.
Success rate depends on your consistency.

    KernelPanic,

Actually, you are wrong about this. Just because a link is nofollow, doesn't mean it has no value. Sure, it doesn't give you a backlink, however, getting a guest post on a website such as The Huffington Post or Forbes will drive a lot of traffic to your website! Google is now focussing less on backlinks now. They still mean something, sure, but they don't mean as much as they used to.

Creating content that will be good for the readers will drive a large amount of traffic to your site. You can then ensure the content on your website is good enough to possibly convert.

Of course, I'm not saying backlinks don't matter. They are a great ranking factor and will be for the foreseeable future! It's just these top tier publications will drive a lot of traffic to your site!

As an FYI, there is no evidence of this. Every case study to date, has shown that links are just as important today as they were 3 years ago. The expectation is that this will eventually change, but it's not accurate to say it already has.

What I meant to say is they are focussing less on backlinks from low-quality sites. For example, if you have 1,000 backlinks from spammy link sites, your site will rank lower than a site that has 10 backlinks from great websites such as Forbes, Huffington Post, Business Insider etc. Google is now moving onto focussing more on the quality of the sites, as well as the user experience of the site.

They have accounts on these kinds of sites. Some times big sites offer other to do guest posting and when they get accounts they start selling posts with links to blog owners. Mostly these links are nofollow

For guest posting in these sites first you have to contact them and tell them that you are interested in guest posting. Also you send them some of your early post so that they will get impressed on you.

Guest Posting is Not a Easy Task. For this, You Have to find the Peoples in that Blog, then you should contact and agree the terms and conditions of that website.
Content should Quality and Original. Need to give some referral links, use proper image representations and content length should be good.

    Thanks

Gust posting is the practice of contributing a post to another person's blog in order to build relationships, exposure, authority, and links.
