    Google Indexed Unstructured URLs

    Hi All,

My website is facing some indexing issues, Google has indexed unknown/unstructured URLs which are never been created like
    - www.xyz.com/ashgce175433

And these URLs are indexed as 404 errors and can be easily seen in search results.

Initially, kindly guide me that from where Google is indexing those URLs? so that I can check the rest of the URLs.

Secondly, In your opinion, what should be the best practice to handle such types of issues?

    Hey,
Google generally index those URLs from your sitemap. So I advise you to check your sitemap and if such URLs are there, remove those unwanted URLs. Update your sitemap and resubmit it.

    Thanks riyaa_rp for the suggestion,
I have reviewed my website's sitemap, but I haven't found any of those URLs. Now, I have added those URLs in robots.txt file as disallow URLs, so that these URLs will be slowly removed from search results. What do you suggest about this practice?

    Google found them somewhere.

Google Search Console will list your crawl errors and for each one tell you how it found it (the link). Go there!

If it turns out to be a group of pages that were all linked to each other but now don't exist it could be that you were hacked, pages added to your website for spamming emails and then deleted when they were finished with you ... so change all your passwords!

    That's an interesting topic.
This has happened for one of the sites that I am managing and it was the result of a hacking.

First of all, change your password for your CMS and remove any 3rd users that u don't know.
Also, do the same for the GSC, because probably the hacker has access there too.

And for all these spammy links, probably a deindexing will be required.

    Thanks Doodled for the reply,
I have reviewed my website's search console, these URLs are not mentioned in there as well.

As per your suggestion, I have changed all of my credentials. Hopefully, such type of issue will never be raise again in future.

I have created the list of these URLs and will monitor them on daily basis. The number of URLs showing in Google search results are same from last 2 weeks (no new fake URL created). I think, I have to wait few more days or weeks, hopefully these URLs might be neglected by Google or Google take any action on them and will remove them from search results.

Use this report to learn which of your pages have been indexed, and how to fix pages that could not be indexed. Each bar in the graph represents the total number of URLs in a particular status (valid, error, and so on) as known by Google.
